It seems that this car has fallen victim to the same problems of most high-displacement small cars. Too much weight. VW has recently been making their cars more luxurious than in the past, which for most people wouldn't be a bother. However on a car like the R32, made to compete with WRX's and the like, the weight is a serious problem. A bare interior and extra stiff suspension would do this car wonders. Another trend that has been popping up on most cars lately is an electronic throttle. VW and other finer European car companies have been using it because there is less noise with no holes in the firewall, and the company can fine tune the pedal/throttle body movement rate depending on the type of car, like luxury, or soccer mom wagon. SCC did not indicate whether an electronic throttle was in place on the R32, but from the words they used to describe throttle response, it may have been used on this car. Another problem with this car that SCC indicated is that the suspension is too mushy to be lowered as much as it is, and that body roll is a little excessive. But all of these things can be cured with a little aftermarket parts. Stiffer suspension, roll cage, stripped interior, and some engine reworking to free up airflow and improve response would make put this car nose to nose with the WRX. This car gets four stars out of five.
